Biofuels have been widely used as a source of power. Mass burning of plant matter is highly effective in producing electricity. But some conventional methods are detrimental to the health of our planet. Trees are cut down faster than they are replaced. Large amounts of carbon dioxide are released. But what about seaweed? Although some seaweed is processed and used in food products, we are not as dependable on it as a food source. This makes it more ideal for biofuel than other cash crops because burning more prevalent food sources for energy is a waste of food! And we already have enough food shortages in the world to deal with. Seaweed can not only be burned as biomass to create electricity, but it can also be fixed in a biodiesel which can fuel cars. According to Damien Carrington, the use of seaweed as an energy source is a growing industry that has the potential to become a clean, major global resource.
